To the Poet of My Homeland
Klasik Keyifler was established in 2011 in Turkey as a non-governmental organization with the aim of providing a platform for creative, collaborative work between performers and composers, strengthening the local chamber music scene, and promoting Turkish chamber music repertoire to wider audiences both domestically and internationally.
The program title, "Yurdunum Saz Şairine", is taken from the dedication by Ekrem Zeki Ün for a Turkish Quartet he composed in the 1930s. To our knowledge, this highly intriguing string quartet was never performed or recorded during the composer's lifetime. Yet, it reveals an early exploration of cultural synthesis, combining Turkish modes (microtonal scales) within a Western contrapuntal framework. The full quartet will be presented to the audience for the first time at this concert, marking its world premiere.
The second part of the program features five chamber works by young composers inspired by the idea of blending traditional folk music elements with string instruments. Among these are two newly commissioned works for the Ankara Festival by Berfin Deniz Çarıkcıoğlu and Sabina Khujaeva Abay.
