One of the leading conductors of his generation, Orhon studied orchestral conducting with Professor Gürer Aykal. He has received widespread acclaim and many positive reviews for his interpretations that remain faithful to period and stylistic characteristics, as well as for his performances and recordings of contemporary Turkish composers.
Orhon has also taken active roles in national and international ensembles such as the World Youth Orchestra (WYO), the Turkish Greek Youth Orchestra (GTYO), and the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Turkey (UGSO). In 2008, he served as one of the assistants to Vladimir Ashkenazy in the Turkish Greek Youth Orchestra, and in 2011 he had the opportunity to work actively with the renowned conductor Kurt Masur at a workshop in Germany.
Also in 2011, the Ankara Youth Symphony Orchestra, which he founded together with his students, was met with great interest and performed at many prestigious events, most notably the Ankara Music Festival. Since 2017, Orhon has been a guest conductor of the Istanbul-based Hezarfen Ensemble, distinguished for its focus on modern music interpretation, as well as the NK Ensemble.
Currently a faculty member at the Başkent University State Conservatory, Orhun Orhon serves as the principal conductor of Orkestra Akademik Başkent.
