The Batavia Madrigal Singers (BMS) is one of Indonesia's most prestigious vocal ensembles. Founded in 1996 in Jakarta by Avip Priatna, the choir has won top prizes at numerous choral festivals across Europe and the world, earning recognition as "one of the finest choirs in the world." Notable for its members from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, BMS boasts a broad repertoire ranging from classical and Baroque works to contemporary music, pop, jazz, and traditional Indonesian folk songs.
The choir reached the pinnacle internationally in 2022 by winning the Grand Prize at the European Choir Song Competition in Tours, France. It has also received top honors at the Tolosa Choir Competition in Spain (2016 and 2019) and the Varna International May Choir Competition in Bulgaria (2011). Having secured numerous first-place awards in international competitions, the choir performed a special concert for Pope Francis at the Vatican in 2024 during its Austria and Italy tour, together with the Jakarta Concert Orchestra.
